Crispy salt + pepper tofu

Crispy salt + pepper tofu is so delicious with some white rice! Just season the tofu, coat it in some corn starch, fry them up, and stir-fry with some seasonings!

I like to use medium firm tofu because I prefer the softer texture, but you can also use firm.

Ingredients

  • Seasonings

  • Coating

Instructions

  1. Heat heavy pan with oil to 375F. Use a thermometer to check the temperature. This will ensure the tofu gets crispy! Fill only 1/4 of the way to prevent oil from overflowing.
  2. Cut tofu into cubes and place on a paper towel-lined plate to dry.
  3. Use half of the seasoning to season the tofu.
  4. Roll them in cornstarch twice for a double coat and then place them on a paper-towel lined plate to soak up any extra moisture.
  5. Fry small batches of tofu for about 1 minute or until crispy. Small batches will prevent the oil temperature from dropping too low. If the temp of the oil gets too low, the tofu won’t crisp up. Rest cooked tofu on paper-towel lined plate to soak up the oil.
  6. Once all the tofu has been cooked, fry for a second time for 30-60 seconds in small batches.
  7. Optional: Heat a pan on medium heat and add oil. Once the oil is hot, add peppers, tofu, and the rest of the seasoning. Cook until everything is well coated! If you want to skip this part, then just add the rest of the seasoning to the cooked tofu and shake it up and serve!
